of history
The Kingdom of Kooki, officially known as Obwakamuswaga bwa Kooki, is a traditional cultural institution located in Rakai District, Uganda. Established between 1696 and 1740, the kingdom has played a vital role in preserving cultural heritage while promoting modern development.

As one of Uganda's eleven traditional cultural institutions — comprising five chiefdoms and six kingdoms — Kooki represents a unique blend of historical significance and contemporary relevance. The kingdom is dedicated to the preservation of traditions, promotion of development, and service to the Abakooki — the people of Kooki.

Governance

The Leadership
Structure

The kingdom is led by the Kamuswaga, a hereditary ruler who serves as the custodian of Kooki's cultural heritage and the spiritual leader of the Abakooki.

The governance structure encompasses various ministries and departments overseeing cultural preservation, development, education, health, and community welfare — ensuring effective service delivery and sustainable progress for all.
